Rick L. (right) and John B. prepare floral arrangements for the Good Food Garden Party held June 22 at Troy Gardens. About 10 Gardening for Good neighbors filled dozens of wine bottles and Mason jars with flowers and greenery and placed them on tables and stands throughout the gardening site. The outdoor dinner is an annual event with proceeds used to support Community GroundWorks’ educational programing on gardening, urban farming, healthful eating and natural areas stewardship. This year’s dinner was prepared by the chefs of five Madison restaurants and Great Dane Pub and Brewing. The flowers were provided by Terri Holzen of Abundance Acres. As a reward for their labor, G4G workers received complementary passes to the dinner. Joining G4G in arranging the bouquets was Ann Sensenbrenner, a flower grower who operates Farm to Vase, provider of floral arrangements that are sustainably grown within 30 miles of Madison. Ten per cent of Ann’s sales are given to
Girls not Brides, a global organization working to end child marriage and further girls’ education and their full development.
